Wow, sorry blog, I kinda deserted you

It's been a while since I've posted but a lot has transpired over the past month. All good things minus having my car broken into but that's life and we are all alive and that's all that matters.

I am an official studio arts major at Florida State University. I got my schedule. I have

Intro to Drawing(yeahhh it's a prerequisite)
Digital Foundations(I'm super excited you have no idea)
Introduction in Brain Behavior in Psycology(I'm starting my phych minor)
Survey 1(this is art history)

So I decided that I will double major in Fine Arts and Art History. After going to orientation I felt glad that I turned SCAD down. I know I'm still going to a decent school with many opportunities(such as abroad internships in London and an internship at the Ringling Museum) and also, I get to experience different things.

One thing that makes me sad is that my schedule interferes with Marching Chiefs so I do not think I will be able to do it my first year. At the same time, it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and try different things alongside finally being an art student. I mean I will probably do basketball again and join the outdoors club. I definitely want to do some global things like coffee hour with the exchange students. Foreign people and coffee? That sounds like a great combination to me.

I need to hardcore make art though. Instead of having my BFA review my sophomore year, I get it at the end of my freshman year. Scary yet awesome to think that I'm ahead.

Things that make me happy

I've been a tad depressed lately. Expect a lot of social anxiety related art pieces soon when I have time to...stop being social haha. But hey it makes good art. When you are an artist, being sad generally has an upside to it if you know what to do about it.
It did make me very very happy to see the bird clips I made my friend Kathleen on her wall.

I am getting paid to do a couple murals too which is nice...but also the curse of doing commissions is that you never get to do exactly what you want but hey money is money and I am very flattered that someone want's me painting on their walls.

Music on a String

So it was my lovely friend Shannon's birthday this week so I crafted her a litttle picture holder for her birthday. It was fun. It took paper, giant paper clips, string, scissors, and double sided tape. I made one with birds before too. It wasn't compeltetly my idea. It was actually something I saw on modcloth that was sold out and I wanted it but was sold out. So I pretty much was like FUUUUU IMMA MAKE MY OWN!

ANd there we go

The birth of pictures on strings.

First song illustration!= "Kids" by MGMT

You were a child,
crawlin' on your knees toward it.
Makin' mama so proud,
but your voice was too loud.

We like to watch you laughing.
You pick the insects off plants.
No time to think of consequences.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it.
A family of trees wantin',
To be haunted.

The water is warm,
but it's sending me shivers.
A baby is born,
crying out for attention.
Memories fade,
like looking through a fogged mirror
Decision to decisions are made and not bought
But I thought,
this wouldn't hurt a lot.
I guess not.

Control yourself.
Take only what you need from it

Done with IB! Time to art for real!

So the summer is pretty much here. I just finished my IB exam which was SL Spanish. This is the first summer in a while where I'm not traveling anywhere interesting :( But I'm looking at it for an opportunity to stay home and make use of my little in room art studio and to get a legit job. If I can find a job in this town.

I want to start a series though. I mean in IB art...the one thing I didn't do was have an actual theme.

So here are two themes I want to get into:
-Mental Disorders
-Birds

Shocking right?
I already have two paintings started based on depression and anorexia started so far.
Nothing too big scale. Probably most of the paintings are going to be on 8 x 12 flat panels.

I'd also want to start making little booklets of illustrations based on songs. Like each verse make an illustration and string it together. That's just another idea. I think this might be too much to try to fit into a summer but we'll see. Ringling Precollege had me popping out 2 paintings a week for just my acrylic painting class on top of my drawing, life studies, sculpture, and graphic design class soooo. It's doable.

I also need to figure out how to make money out of this...

Hopefully getting photoshop in a month or so with a shiny new mac for college :)

Here's a picture I doodles in Spanish class to celebrate me finishing IB with a spanish exam
